According to the legend the town has been founded some 13 hundred years ago by Krak, the Prince of local tribe Wiślanie.

On the suburs of Krakow, on the way to Tranow lies Wieliczka, ther small town built over the the oldest salt excavaton place in the world.
The archeologists found here the clay tool with wich the local people got the salt from the water some five thousand years ago.

Among several dozens of wooden churches in Małopolska, the one in Lipnica Murowana is unique.
In spite of several renovations and conservations, ( the last one in 1997 ) it preserved the shape and main construction with many details dating back to 15th century.
